Uncharted 2 Preview

Uncharted 2. You probably heard about the hype surrounding the game. Let's take a close look at the sequel to the critically acclaimed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, on the PS3.

If we had to define Uncharted with one word, it would be pretty hard to choose. That's why I decided to pick more than one!

-Action: this game is about intense action. Ranging from gunfights in the city, to running away on top of a train, to being chased by trucks in narrow streets, or by helicopters for that matter. This game has it all! The trailer even shows a wagon tumbling as the result of an explosion, about to fall on Nathan Drake (the hero)!!

You will be picking up various weapons from pistols to snipers and rocket launchers, to a propane tank! There is also a hand to hand combat component where, depending on the enemy's size, it will be easier, harder or impossible!

-Locations: since Nathan Drake is kind of a male Lara Croft, in the sense that he is after treasures, you will be traveling all over the place! From South America to jungles to snowy mountains! And what does this mean?

It means graphical power! While the first game only used 30% of the processing power of the PS3, this one was designed to use the maximum possible. The landscapes really look great, the characters too. In a recent interview with Evan Wells, the producer, he said : "[Uncharted 2] will have the prettiest snow you’ve ever seen in a game!”. The snow will be real like, slowing your movements among other things. This game is on point with its graphics!

-Gameplay: or should I say gameplays! It has it all: cover/shoot style like Gears of Wars, stealth elements so you can play it sneaky, but also platform and puzzles where you will have to stop and think for a bit. If you ask me, this sounds like an amazing crossover. The length of the game is supposed to be long too, with OVER 90 MINUTES OF CINEMATICS! Now that is awesome.

-Multiplayer: well, this really was the only thing left here, and Uncharted 2 has it. With online coop, or even deathmatch, capture the flag-style, and other unrevealed game modes, with trophies supported, what else can you ask for?

As someone who played the closed beta, I can say that there is no lag whatsoever, the game is very fluid. Hiding, taking cover, jumping, are all actions that are very fluid and easy to manipulate.

-Story: The story is not one that is expected. Although linear, the interactions between the characters, with humor or drama, make the game very alive. You will be laughing with Nathan in no time, and really relate to the game.

In conclusion, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves should be in everyone's preorder list if you own a PS3. When I think about it, you can summarize this game with one word: FUN.
